Who Should Support?

If you want to become engaged in a national organization that will work to support your unique business structure, we want to hear from you! Family Enterprise USA (FEUSA) is an organization for business-owning families in the United States. While there are membership prerequisites, a family business of any size can become a member of FEUSA.

FEUSA relies solely on the support of its members and donors to fund the work we do. As a 501(c)(3) membership organization, all dues and donations are fully tax-deductible.
 

Membership prerequisites. Membership in FEUSA requires meeting the following three conditions.

1. All members must fit FEUSA's membership definition as outlined below:

  • The primary operating business must be based in the U.S.
  • At least one representative of the family or kin is involved in the management or governance of the firm.
  • The majority of votes are in control of one of the following:
    • Natural person(s) who established the firm.
    • Natural person(s) who has/have acquired the share capital of the firm.
    • Spouses, parents, child or children's direct heirs.
    • A trust that benefits a lineal descendent(s) of the firm's founders.

(Publicly traded companies meet FEUSA's member definition if the person who established or acquired the firm (share capital), or their families or descendants, possess 25% of the right to vote mandated by their share capital.)

2. Membership must be listed by either family name or organization name.

3. Directors of FEUSA's Board are elected by its members. Each company's membership is only allowed one vote and one person from the family/company must be appointed to place the vote.
